Working across a diverse range of media—including film, sound, virtual reality, and electronics — Ong Kian Peng positions his practice at the confluence of art, technology, and ecology. His immersive environments and installations explore ecological thought, addressing issues such as climate change, environmental crises, and the evolving relationship between humans and technology. Ong’s practice navigates the entangled dynamics of culture, nature, and machine, crafting visionary scenarios that prompt existential reflection on humanity’s role in shaping the future of a fragile planet.

His projects have been presented at major institutions including the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts, Singapore Art Museum, Asian Civilisations Museum(Singapore), Total Museum(Seoul), Victoria & Albert Museum(UK), ArtScience Museum(Singapore), Tank Shanghai(China), and the National Gallery Singapore. He has also exhibited at key media festivals such as Ars Electronica(Austria), SIGGRAPH Art Gallery, FILE Festival (Brazil), Currents New Media (USA), Japan Media Arts Festival, Singapore Biennale. In addition, his works have been shown in leading galleries including Arebyte Gallery (London), ICA London, ShanghART Singapore, Yavuz Gallery, and Whitestone Gallery Singapore.

Kian Peng’s projects have been recognised with the Grand Prize of the President’s Young Talent 2015, Singapore’s premier award for emerging artists. His works have also received international recognition through the Crowbar Awards (Singapore), Core77 Awards (USA), and the Japan Media Arts Awards (Japan). He has been selected as a finalist for prestigious awards such as the Sovereign Asian Art Prize (Hong Kong), IFVA Awards (Hong Kong), Arte Laguna Award (Italy), Re:Humanism Art Prize (Italy), and the Lumen Prize (UK, 2025).

He holds an MFA from UCLA’s Design Media Arts program, supported by the DesignSingapore Scholarship, and is a recipient of the NTU Research Scholarship for his PhD studies. Ong is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University. He is also the co-founder of Supernormal.space, an independent platform for emerging and experimental art practices, where he is actively involved as curator and producer.
